St. Paul Parish - Kisaju: Foundation

Foundation

The parish was founded on the 23rd of November 2014, by Rt. Rev. Bishop John Oballa Owaa, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ngong. The authority to establish parishes is vested on him by canon 515, #2, of the code of canon law. St. Paul’s Parish-Kisaju serves 6 outstations of Kisaju centre, Ilpolosat, Lenchani, Embuyankat, Olturoto, and Jamii Bora. Fr Gideon Rimberia Mburugu OMI was appointed as the first parish priest assisted by Fr Sam Hong OMI. Brs. Joseph Magambo OMI and Zachary Mwenda OMI joined the community in 2016. Other Oblates working in a nearby Oblate formation house assist in the parish pastoral activities include formation Frs Praveen Salvadoi OMI and Greg Oszut OMI and Fr Jean Piearre OMI.

St Paul Parish -Kisaji: Brief History

Brief History

Initially, the parish was under St. Monica Noonkopir parish Kitengela. The Bishop of Ngong, determined that growing population in and around Kitengela, and the need to closely meet the pastoral needs of the people of God within its environs, then St. Paul’s Kisaju be elevated to parish status.

The bishop placed the care of the parish to the missionaries Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI). Fr. Mario Azrak OMI was appointed the administrator of the proposed parish with Br. Dionisius Ananua OMI. After a month Fr. Gideon Rimberia OMI joined the team. The first Oblate community to serve the parish lived in a rented house in Kitengela town and commuting daily to respond to the pastoral needs of the people of God in different outstations of the proposed parish including stony Athi.

Mr. Fredrick Njoroge who passed on in a tragic flash flood accident on 11th Feb 2016 together with his wife, was the first parish pastoral council moderator. May their souls rest in peace.

The parish is currently under the leadership of Fr. Gideon Rimberia OMI assisted by Fr. Phelix Johya OMI and Br. Joseph Magambo. The population of the parish stands at 400 hundred families though the numbers are increasing gradually.

The creation of St. Cecilia Parish Isinya on the 28th May 2023, saw 2 outstations viz. Ilpolosat and Lenchani transferred to the newly created parish. Kisaju parish created new outstation in March 2023 around Hawa area along Kitengela-Isinya road. Currently the Parish has six outstations, namely; Kisaju, Korompoi, Hawa, Olturoto, Embuyanga and Jamii Bora. The parish has 14 catechists; 4 full time catechists and 10 volunteer catechists; 2 more will be graduating from the Nyeri Catechetical institute, thanks to the Diocese of Ngong.
