Our Lady of Fatima (Portuguese: Nossa Senhora de Fatima, formally known as Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fatima is a Catholic title of the Blessed Virgin Mary based on the famed Marian Apparitions reported in 1917 by three shepherd children at the Coya da Iria, in Fatima Portugal. The three children were Lucia dos Santos and her cousins Francisco and Jacinta Marto.

The establishment of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Parish cannot be isolated from the rapid growth and development of Ongata Rongai Township in Ngong Division of Kajiado County. In the late 80s and and early 90s, the township witnessed a rapid growth and a large movement by people from different parts of Kenya, becoming as such a Metropolitan. At the time, there was only one Catholic Church serving the large and growing number of Catholics in the area - St Mary's Catholic Church. Under the stewardship of the Comboni Missionaries, St. Mary's St. Mary's Church was providing pastoral care to the people in and around Rongai area under various local out stations and church groups. This is how Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church/Parish came to be: -

  1. A few Christians felt that St. Mary's Catholic Church was far and they faithfully negotiated to be allowed to worship at the nearby convent of The Evangelizing Sisters of Mary.
  2. Gradually, the community grew bigger, so the Priest felt a need to have two masses; One for the Nuns and the other for Laity.
  3. The Faithful had to furnish the Church with pews, P.A. system, building a restroom and a walk way to avoid them passing through their dormitories.
  4. In 1992, the members formed a Church committee which comprised of the laity and the sisters.
  5. In 1993, the Laity requested to be given a place to build a small Church since by then the sisters were complaining that the community was getting bigger by the day. It was not easy, because they were not willing to part with their land, though they promised to let Mother Superior know of the request. Mother Superior promised to inform Fr. Marengoni (RIP), who was the moderator of the Evangelizing Sisters.
  6. Thereafter the matter was taken to Fr. Joseph Caramazza, the then Fr.In-charge,who took it up with the Bishop. By then the Bishop was Rt. Rev. Colin Davis (RIP).

The decree to establish Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Parish was issued and signed by Right Rev. Bishop John Oballa Owaa on 22 December, 2013. Fr. John Orenge was appointed the first Parish Priest. He served for 5 years until when he handed over on 28th June 2019 to Fr. Anthony Ndung'u, the current Parish Priest. The Parish was created within the following boundaries: Mandela Road, Quarry Road all through Saitoti Road, Hospital Road close to Mbagathi Road, Olkeri Road, and Kandisi Road, Magadi Road to Acacia Road, and comprising St. Andrew's Nkaimurunya and Our Lady of Fatima.

"Due to a steady influx of general population and indeed the Catholic population, a second Parish in Ongata Rongai town is justifiable" stated Bishop Oballa in the decree. The Principle Church of this Parish will be the existing one and knownunder the title of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Parish.

The Church started with two masses but, thanks to God that the growth of theChristians has been immense, hence the need for the additional of more masses. At the moment the Church has four (4) masses every Sunday. The Jumuiyas have grown to 18 groups. We have also seen growth in groups and movements
