Ngong | YCW called to be the light of faith that never goes out
Ngong-Communication Office| December, 2025
As Ngong Diocese marks 50 years of its existence, Young Christian Workers have been reminded of our shared mission: “to go out and make disciples of Christ. A mission that calls the faithful not to hide their faith, but to let it shine in their daily lives.
“What we are being sent out to do afresh is to go and make disciples for Christ. To go and put our talents, our energies, our resources into proclaiming the gospel, not hiding our faith under bush or under table, but enabling the world to see the light of our faith. Be the salt of the earth, that wherever we go, we add flavor to the life.”
The YCW had gathered for the annual Diocesan Mass on 13th December, 2025 at St. Joseph the Worker Cathedral, a celebration that was graced by Bishop John Oballa.
In his address the Bishop asked members of YCW movement to live consciously by being attentive to the needs of others, refusing to ignore suffering, injustice, or exclusion and standing for truth regardless of the cost.
“Live your life consciously, pay attention to your surroundings, whether it is the environment, whether it is somebody suffering around you, don't close your eyes. You do whatever it takes to alleviate that suffering, don't close your eyes to even injustices around you. You have the heart of Christ, what matters to you is truth. whatever it might cost you.”
The Bishop stressed to them to treasure and guard their faith, “faith is a precious gift from God, one that requires care and protection, just as we protect our eyesight. We guard our eyes because we know that anything harmful can affect our vision. In the same way, we must guard our faith. It is a gift we should cherish, nurture, and be proud of, because it enables us to see and understand the things of God.”
The Mass was attended by over seven hundred Young Christian Workers drawn from five deaneries of the diocese.
