Ngong| Legionaries Called to Faithful Service
Ngong-Communication Office| October 27th, 2025
The month of October fills the heart of every Legionary with a quiet and genuine joy. It is the month dedicated to Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, a time when the faithful is called to turn with renewed devotion to Mary, our Mother and our Queen.
As a tradition, Diocesan Legionaries annually in the month of October gather at the Cathedral for their annual Mass. Their mission is profound, to extend the gentle reign of Mary in all hearts, so that through her, the reign of Jesus Christ our Saviour may be made known and loved.
Sunday 26th October saw a gathering of members from nineteen praesidia across five deaneries of the diocese, Mass which was presided by Bishop John Oballa.
The Legionaries have no presence in Kilgoris and Ololulunga Deaneries, and according to the President Ngong Curia Mr. Pius Tongi efforts are under way to establish Praesidium in these deaneries come year 2026.
He called for support from the clergy saying Priests are crucial in establishing Praesidium in Parishes, since in every praesidium there is need for a spiritual director who is a Priest.
Bishop Oballa in his address asked the Legionaries to guard themselves against spiritual pride. He said, it is easy, even unconsciously, to fall into the trap of spiritual pride. When we compare ourselves to others, “Thank you, Lord, that I am not like them” we resemble the Pharisee more than we realize. True holiness does not consist in being better than others, but in becoming more like Christ. We are not judged by comparison, but by imitation, by how closely our lives reflect the humility and love of Jesus.”
He asked them to do good quietly. “Our apostolate is hidden but powerful: praying the Rosary and Catena daily, offering secret sacrifices known only to God, visiting homes and hospitals, comforting the lonely and the bereaved, and reaching out to those on the margins and those who have drifted from the faith. Every act, no matter how small, becomes a prayer of love when done in humility.”
