
Education
The Catholic Diocese of Ngong (CDoN) was first established in 1959 as an Apostolic Prefecture of Ngong under Kisumu Diocese, which was being shepherded by Bishop Joannes de Reeper. It was elevated to diocesan status in 1976 with Bishop Colin Davies as its first Bishop until 2003, Cornelius Schilder (2003-2009) and Rt. Rev. John Oballa Owaa, the current Bishop.
The Diocese is situated in the Southern part of Kenya, mainly in the Counties of Kajiado and Narok. It covers an approximate area of 39,619km2. It is home to a population of approximately
1.7 million (2009) spread over 34 parishes clustered into five deaneries of:
- Ngong
- Narok
- Kilgoris
- Loitokitok
- Kajiado (2016)
The Diocese runs a number of collaborative pastoral programs at parish and diocesan levels. These include, but not limited to, Small Christian Communities (SCCs), catechetical programs, lay apostolate associations and movements, justice and peace commission, Catholic institutions, microfinance welfares, livelihoods, and health.

The Diocesan Education Office
Goals/objectives
- To contribute towards holistic value-based formation in both formal and informal institutions within the CDON.
- To set quality standards for the establishment, registration and management of educational institutions in the CDON in accordance with MOE, KCCB-CERE and Diocesan policies.
- To put in place monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for CDoN learning institutions in the implementation of the MOE, KCCB-CERE and Diocesan policies.
- To ensure policy on safeguarding of learners and staff is fully implemented at school level.
- To sustain the Catholic Identity and Pastoral care in the institutions under CDoN.
Diocesan Education Secretary
The Diocesan Bishop shall appoint a Diocesan Executive Education Secretary, who shall be the head of the Diocesan Education Office and the Secretary to the DEAB.
The specific roles of the Education Secretary
- Represents, advising and constantly liaising with the Diocesan Bishop on all education matters within the CDoN
- A member of both County and sub-county Education Boards as a representative of the CDoN
- Ex-officio member of all Boards of Managements of all Catholic private and sponsored institutions.
- To ensure policy on safeguarding of learners and staff is fully implemented at school level.
- To sustain the Catholic Identity and Pastoral care in the insti- tutions under CDoN
