As the Church journeys through the Jubilee Year of Pilgrims of Hope. The faithful of Ngong Diocese, together with friends and partners, gathered on Saturday, 6th December, to celebrate the annual Family Day.

It is on this occasion that the diocese launched its Golden Jubilee, tracing its roots to 1959, when it was established as an Apostolic Prefecture under Monsignor John D. Reeper. Later to be elevated to the status of a Diocese under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Collin Davies in December 1976,

Having been established as a mission territory, missionaries, men and women of faith, left their homes, undertook long and dangerous journeys, and endured immense hardships to evangelize. Their missionary zeal was sustained by deep prayer and unwavering commitment.

Bishop John Oballa, in his remarks as he presided over the celebrations, asked the faithful to use the Jubilee as an opportunity to rekindle their commitment to Christ and to others.

โ€œHow evangelical it would be to be kinder to others and be more joyful in living the life of Christ. May we be a source of blessing to one another and to the world, faithful to the mission entrusted to us: to go forth and make disciples.โ€ He asked them to take the opportunities available in the modern age to evangelize. โ€œWe are probably at a greater advantage in the mission of evangelization in this era of technology. Use Twitter, WhatsApp, TikTok, and indeed hashtags for evangelization.โ€

The Vicar General, Fr. John Ntiseyia, who is the Chair of the committee spearheading Golden Jubilee celebrations, invited the faithful to embrace the jubilee year with renewed missionary zeal, calling them to strengthen their pastoral mission in their families and among each other.

โ€œEmbrace this year with renewed missionary zeal, bringing Christ into our homes, workplaces, and communities with courage and compassion. Let us deepen our participation in the sacraments, grow in formation, practice charity and justice, and strengthen prayer in our families and Small Christian Communities.โ€

The Jubilee year will run until 5th December 2026. The Jubilee committee has come up with monthly themes for reflection and tools of evangelization that will move around diocesan parishes. These tools are meant to lead the faithful to an encounter with the living Christ.
