Sunday 9th November, marked the Silver Jubilee of St. Martin of Tours Parish, Sultan Hamud, a celebration that coincided with the Feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of St. John Lateran.

The jubilation that was attended by hundreds of faithful drawn from the twenty-two Parish Outstations, was a great moment of reawakening faith coming at a time the Church is celebrating jubilee of Pilgrims of Hope.

According to Fanny Musinga, a Parishioner, the jubilee celebration paved way for deeper evangelization and realignment of Parish key objectives. She said that, the celebrations lifted the face of the Parish, as all the parishioners were engaged in ensuring the success of the jubilee saying it cemented the bond of the faithful’s.

“The door-to-door evangelization conducted by the faithful in collaboration with the Clergy made many lapsed faithful and those weak in faith to respond and come back to Church. The jubilee is significant as it has enhanced the bond of the Parishioners.”

The reflection of the day given by Bishop John Oballa, focused on the meaning of being the Church, not as a structure of stone and steel, but as a community, “living stones” animated by the Spirit of God.

He said that, “a Christian life must therefore remain anchored in Christ, avoiding practices that contradict the Gospel. Faith cannot coexist with superstition, for such contradictions turn the Church into a marketplace instead of a place of sincere worship.”

The Bishop called Christians to cultivate hearts filled with faith, humility, hope, and charity saying that a heart filled with noise, greed, or duplicity cannot be a dwelling place for God.

The prelate invited the faithful to deepen unity as one family of God, active in the parish and vibrant in the Small Christian Communities.

Echoing the vision of prophet Ezekiel, the prelate asked the faithful to make the community become like life-giving waters: wherever they flow, life flourishes, fruit nourishes, and leaves bring healing. He stressed that, authentic faith must lead to concrete acts of charity and concern for the afflicted.

During the function the Bishop blessed the Grotto dedicated to Blessed Virgin Mary and awarded the Clergy who previously served in the Parish, various parish leaders and the faithful. The Bishop also confirmed over two hundred confirmands.
